Privacy Policy
The Daily Tasmania respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
Who we are
The Daily Tasmania is an independent local news publication serving Tasmania. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" refer to The Daily Tasmania.
What we collect
Information you give us. When you subscribe to our newsletter we collect your email address and the page you signed up from. When you submit a form (enquiry, event submission, comment) we collect the details you provide so we can respond.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the site we collect standard server log data: IP address, browser type, referring page, and pages viewed. We use this for security, debugging and aggregate analytics.
How we use information
We use the information we collect to deliver the newsletter, respond to enquiries, improve the site, prevent abuse, and produce aggregate audience reports. We do not sell your personal information.
Cookies and analytics
We use a small number of cookies and similar storage for essential site functionality (remembering you have dismissed a banner, for example) and for privacy-respecting analytics so we can see which stories are read. You can clear or block cookies in your browser at any time; some features may not work without them.
Sharing and disclosure
We use a small set of trusted service providers to host the site, send the newsletter, and provide analytics. These providers process data on our behalf and are bound by contract. We may disclose information where required by Australian law.
Storage and security
We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold. Data is stored with reputable cloud providers, some of which may store data outside Australia. We retain information only for as long as it is needed for the purposes described above.
Children
The Daily Tasmania is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter. To access, correct or delete your information, email privacy@dailytasmania.com.au or use our contact page. Unresolved complaints can be referred to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date above will change when we do.
